Get to Know Jody

Hometown: Mishawaka, IN

Favorite thing about SCNM: My favorite thing about SCNM is the people that I have the privilege to work with.  This is a very supportive and loving community.  Everyone around you wants nothing more than to see you grow and be the best person you can be.

Why I love naturopathic medicine:  I have seen naturopathic medicine work its wonders on my family members through nutrition, physical medicine, acupuncture, prolotherapy and much more.  It amazes me what the body is capable of doing to heal itself.

Why I love what I do:  Oh my goodness there are so many reasons why I love what I do! But the biggest thing would be knowing that I am part of the students’ lifelong journey.  It excites me beyond imagination to see the enthusiasm in a prospective or current student’s voice when they are telling me about the medicine, what their all-time goals are and how they are planning to make a difference in our health care someday.  I love walking down the hallways and students take time out of their busy schedule to come say hi, give a hug, or just come by my office just to get away from the craziness of medical school.  The best part is attending the students’ graduation and knowing you had a part in that.  It gets me teary-eyed every time.  I love each and every one of my students.

Something unique about me:  I first met my husband Jeff in 3rd grade (at the ripe old age of 9).  We used to always tease each other mainly because we liked each other but we became best of friends throughout school and married in November 1983 (yes, 31 years ago!).  He is my best friend!

My favorite restaurant near SCNM: Definitely Pita Jungle. They have the best hummus in town!

My favorite thing to do in Arizona:  I absolutely love to golf.  My husband took me to a driving range just to “hit golf balls” and I fell in love with the sport.  We spend a lot of time on the golf course in the summer when we can mostly because golfing in Arizona in the summer is very cheap!

If I had a catchphrase, it would be:  This is your lifelong journey; enjoy the ride!
