Pam Howell, MD, began her career in health care at West Texas A&M University, graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry. She went on to receive her medical degree from Texas Tech University, where she completed a pediatric residency focusing on adolescent medicine, ambulatory and developmental pediatrics, neonatal and pediatric intensive care, pediatric cardiology, and pediatric and adolescent psychiatry.

Once through with her schooling, Dr. Howell began a private pediatric practice in Amarillo, caring for children from infancy through adolescence. Additionally, she served as chief of pediatrics at High Plains Baptist Hospital in Texas from 1998 to 2000 and lead AIDS awareness seminars at the community’s junior and senior high schools. In 2003, she came to SCNM with her husband, who is a practicing naturopathic physician.

Before beginning her medical training, she served in the United States Navy for six years as an electronics technician and was honorably discharged at the rank of First Class Petty Officer.  Dr. Howell is the chair of SCNM's Clinical Diagnostics Department, and teaches general medical diagnosis, emergency medicine, and clinical preparation classes. She has been a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), American Medical Women’s Association, Texas Medical Association, local medical societies, American Association of Pediatrics, and Soroptomist International.
